New Business Spotlight

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held May 14 in Prentiss for the new Foley Products Company manufacturing facility.

The company, which makes precast concrete products, is investing $7 million in the 28,000-square-foot  plant that will create 40 jobs.

“I appreciate the company’s investment in this project and the new jobs Foley Products is creating for the residents of Prentiss and the surrounding areas,” said Gov. Phil Bryant, the keynote speaker. “The company’s decision to build its new facility in Jefferson Davis County will have a positive, lasting impact on the area’s economy.”

Southern Pine Electric will supply power to the plant. Southern Pine Electric and South Mississippi Electric Power Association will modify their lines to facilitate construction of the plant, said Larry Robinson, manager of Engineering  Support Services.

Allen Barnes, Foley president, said company officials began searching for a site for a new plant two years ago. He said they were looking for a place that could provide a strong workforce, raw materials, a good geographical location and community support.

“When we got here and met with the board of supervisors, we left feeling that we got that place,” Barnes told a large crowd of officials and Jefferson Davis County residents.

Third District U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper said Foley Product’s decision to come to Prentiss will have a ripple effect.

“What will happen is you’ll see other things begin to happen as we get that momentum going,” he said.

Foley Products has plants in Newnan, Ga., Dallas, Ga., and Clanton, Ala. The Prentiss plant is its first in Mississippi.
